A compassionate approach

My name is Elaine Schow, I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in nursing with a focus on Women’s, Children’s and Youth Health.

I have worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Counsellor and Educator in the areas of Women’s Health, Youth and Adult Mental Health, Seniors Health and Community Health over the past 36 years.

I use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach that facilitates exploration of core beliefs, values, thoughts and feelings that underlie behaviour patterns. This approach, within a caring and supportive environment, fosters an individual’s ability to engage in self-exploration, self-understanding and self-initiative.

I believe by helping people understand and express themselves, they will develop increased self-esteem and self-confidence. I focus on strength-based strategies and counselling approach, working with you or your children, to determine the best approaches to meet your or your children’s needs. It is often very helpful to combine talk therapy with other approaches to help explore and express thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

The following counselling approaches are all proven through research and practice to facilitate life transitions, address mental health needs and help people feel happy and that their life has a sense of purpose and meaning. It is not enough not to be depressed, the goal should be to feel happy, optimistic and have a sense of purpose and meaning in one’s life.

My mental health nursing, counselling and education background allows me to counsel, treat and support children, youth and women to address numerous mental health, transitional and relationship issues.
